In the Engineering industry, there are special tools and equipment’s  that make the work easy for engineers to get the work done faster. There’s a special tool that mechanical, electrical and computer engineers use to make their work easier which is called a multimeter.

A multimeter is tool that help engineers detect a problem on an electronic such as testing and reading parts in a car or testing a plug outlet somewhere in your apartment to see if the specific part or electric wire needs to be replace or if its functioning correctly. the first multimeter to be invented was from the 1920, there was a famous engineer named Donald macadie who was a British post office engineer he was the first person to discover a multimeter. During his time as an engineer, he needed something to help him work on circuits he was a telecommunicator where he would detect common issues on this device, he came up with the idea to make a device that will help him detect and calculate the volt and the ohms in a circuit that way the problem can be solved faster and save time. Back then it was called a volt-ohm milliammeter because the calculation will be displayed in ohms or in volts this was when it first was invented but now its renamed to be called a multimeter which is now a digital device.

this is one of the first multimeter that was used back in the 1820’s as shown it was used by connecting the wires on both sides of the multimeter and it will show the number of volts the electronic has.

Multimeters are made out a little device circuit with a battery that functions the device it has a positive and a negative pin that are made to read a device and it has a digital display that shows you how many voltages does the device or electronic part your testing hold. It has a turning switch that allows you to chance it to either AC (alternative current      ) which is the electricity that it supplied at home or to DC (direct current) which is the current that be used in car batteries and in solar panels and cars.

There are many ways to use a Multimeter, let’s say you’re about to test a circuit you have to make sure that you’ve found the negative and the positive and the ground on the circuit. If it’s a current your about to test you should make sure you analyze the wires that would give the right reading.

How its Used:

The DC Mode:

  1. Swich the multimeter to the DC Mode where it shows volts
  2. Place the the needle tester where it says input and out put
  3. Place the black needle to the negtive side of the device and red to the positive side

Lets say you have a car and you want to know if your car battery is able to start the car later on to drive to work. You would need to swich the multimeter to DC mode where it be in volts and place it by th 20 volt range. Plcae the black needle to the negetive side of the battery and place the red one to the positive side of the battery. If on the display it shows 12.5 volts or more that means it can start the car but if it shows below 12.5 volts that would mean it can’t start the car and there might be something wrong with the battery or the charging system in your car.

            The AC Mode:

  1. Swich the multimeter to the AC Mode where it shows in Amps
  2. Place the negetive and the positive needle to an outlet in the room
  3. Wait for the beeping sound to see if it works or not

With the AC testing lets say your outlet has and issue and it wount power up the TV Or your Desk top computer, the multimeter would be switch into AC mode and we will get it calculated Amps. The needle testers (the positive and Negetive ground) will be place inside the outlet. If  the multimeter makes a beeping noise then that means the outlet is red which means there is electricity flowing and there must me sometthing wrong with the TV or the Desktop computer. If theirs is no beeping then there’s no current flowing as it needs to.

To conclude, multimeters are testers that made elecronic and electrical repairs easy thanks to Mr. Macadie who invented the first multimeter in the 1920s , now it’s made into a digital device which displays the numbers in volts or in amps it always has two ways of testing which is the AC mode which is for elctricty used indoors or the DC mode which is use for cars and other things that use battery voltages. The testing is for engineers to know what to repair when a device breaks down or if theres a blow out.

Self Reflection:

The objectives from the course learning that was adress to this assigment was discription, where it was informed from the course to adress our audience to catch their attention by showing them graphics, pictures and charts to make them understand more of what the speech or letter would be about. Secondly, is about how to do a technical letter or document, which different from other kinds of writing. I belive this is a combination of being infrommative in your writing and at the same time it will involve a compare and contrast in the writing. The steps that was involved in the writing is the how to write a technical document by first planning what to write about and choosing a specifinc item to write about and  also record information from the internet including the citations amd other brainstormings to include in the paper. The draft is also included which is the most important part of the technical course. The drafting helped me to know where and what to change and put things in oder, this is where the peer review comes in where my peers are my temperary audience to help give feedback on what they see on your paper that should be carefully looked at and what did they understood from it.

The tecniques that I would use again in the future would be getting feed backs from people that are from the engineering industry. I would show them how I would be able to present myself to the job place and the kind of image that I would like to apear to the people. Their feedbacks and their expirences would alert me to what I should change and add that would make it catch the attention of others.

What I learned from the course is mainly how to catch your audience attention. The audience would be the person who is  reading your document or listening to a speech you are given. Feeedback is also a main part that I have learned in this course, feedback is the golden key of making a technical document to someone. The drafting teqnuique would be something that I strongly learned in this course so far, the drafting is a way to identify some errors and things that are unnecessary to put in a technical document. I also learned what is a technical document and the importance it would be in the future of my career. now a days people don’t just get hire by telling them who you are, it has to be written douwn and documented like a resume, which would show your past careers and education level and your background. A cover letter attached with a resume is also somethig that involves in technical writing, all of these shows that our words don’t don’t show employer who we are to get hired but our technical documents are the key to get a career.
